Are you interested in Katowice city bikes? Do you want to help identify the city bike system’s faults and suggest relevant solutions? Would you like to get in touch with all those who are also interested in the development of the city’s public sphere? Join our CityBike Hack hackathon and work as part of an expert-supervised interdisciplinary team!
A city bike system has been operating in Katowice since 2010. While initially bicycles were available exclusively through traditional rental companies, 2015 saw the automation of the rental and return process. Currently, users can take advantage of 450 city bikes (passenger and cargo) available from 54 stations.
Based on data on the hub locations as well as rental and return times, etc., we intend to examine the real-life city bike usage patterns. We also want to juxtapose these data with bicycle path maps and residence information. Our objective is to identify any potential problems and recommend solutions in consultation with urban activists, data researchers and urban transport specialists.
We invite the participation of all those interested in public transport, urban activists, programmers, data researchers, designers, as well as all others who care to support the process of improving the city bike service in Katowice.
The session will last 8 hours. Participants will gain access to samples of data sets a few days before the main event.
What data sets do we have?
– data on bike rental from Nextbike,
– locations of bicycle rental stations and routes,
– geographical data on population.
