As Katowice is going through a period of dynamic change, the remnants of urban typography, including beautiful and original neon signs and signboards as well as carefully designed labels and inscriptions, are soon likely to perish. The purpose of this experimental workshop is to explore and preserve these signs and typefaces.
Participants will work to identify some characteristic features of indigenous Katowice lettering styles in order to propose new projects that would combine tradition with contemporary design. During the first meeting of the project, participants are supposed to map the city space, documenting its typographic heritage.
