Would you like to try your hand in a multidisciplinary team? Do you want to gain new competences in a relaxing holiday atmosphere? The idea of working together is close to you? Join the Summer Lab, a series of free workshops that will be held in Medialab this July and August – we have prepared for you a number of sessions related to issues such as data science, Arduino, design process and user research.
Both beginners and professionals are welcome to take part. There are no age or education requirements, we are looking forward to meeting both Medialab regulars and those who have never attended our workshops.
Raspberry Pi Fundamentals
We invite you to take part in workshops on the foundations of Raspberry Pi! We will use various sensors and actuators to collect information from the web, prepare a web server and create a Raspberry Pi network.
Designing good research: what does a research process involve? Part I
The workshop will open with a theoretical introduction to the research design process. We will explain the key stages ahead of the study itself, present different research methods and techniques, and explain when to apply them.
Please note that each registered person is obliged to participate in an entire series of session.
Arduino fundamentals: let’s build a selfie machine!
The Rube Goldberg machine is an elaborate series of domino mechanisms that perform a simple task in a complex way. In our case, this simple task will be to take a picture with a phone camera. We invite you to take part in the workshop!
An intensive course intended as an introduction to a comprehensive process of designing products and services. We will prove that product development is a direct response to a real customer problem. We will discover the relationship and importance of the personnel, the users and the importance of a business goal. Thanks to a dynamic combination of short workshops, teamwork and a wide range of tools, we will try to test design thinking in practice.
Please note that each registered person is obliged to participate in an entire series of session. Registration will open in the first week of July.
Machine learning techniques for working with text data
The theme of the session is the application of machine learning techniques for working with text data. As an example we will use the survey of Katowice cultural events which produced a report published on dataforculture.eu.
Machine learning techniques for the analysis of data on urban bikes
The workshop will examine the characteristics of the use of Katowice bicycles and discover the trends of their use. To this end, we will carry out a step-by-step review of the basic methods of clustering and implement them in a practical solution.
The VJing Workshop: the basics of procedural creative methods using TouchDesigner.
This workshop will introduce you to a variety of techniques for generating and processing images using sound and vice versa.
To take part in the project, please register using an event-specific form, wait for the confirmation from us and then return your declaration of participation. The workshops are free of charge, though availability is limited. Participants are obliged to attend all the workshops they have enrolled in. Registration for the workshops will start approximately three weeks prior to each event.
