Katowice. A walking guide to the southern city centre is a pocket-sized publication presenting the districts south of the railway tracks. The main focus of the narrative is Kościuszki Street – the city’s longest street.
The walking guide was created to bring residents and tourists’ attention to a part of the city that is lacking in spectacular attractions, upscale investments and nightlife. Instead, Katowice’s southern city centre is still full of spots that have not changed for decades.
In this guidebook, we show inconspicuous addresses of significant importance to the city’s history; we describe the buildings and squares we pass every day, placing them in the context of people and events gone by. Our intention is to encourage you to look at Katowice as a city that you can visit over a weekend equipped with a map and a walking guide.

You can choose from 5 walking routes detailed on the 80 pages of our book:

We also present green areas and sports grounds in the southern city centre of Katowice and Kościuszko Park (with a colouring map). A great treat for all those interested in the region will be four archival maps – from 1880, 1902, 1926 and 1942.
Our walking guide also includes short comments from local residents, links to websites related to the history of the region and a link to the Medialab website offering recommendations regarding some of the most popular shops, pubs, services and restaurants in and around Kościuszki Street.

The Southbound Promenade series
The walking guide is part of the Southbound Promenade series. It began with the 2018 exhibition on Kościuszki Street, and was followed by the release of the street’s monograph The Southbound Promenade. The Story of Kościuszki Street.
